I’ve been working with WordPress for the last couple of years now in order to try out some of my ideas. In the process I’ve learned a lot about WordPress and how to make it do what I need it to do. In the process I have created a few services and products that I needed along the way. You can find most of them at WPOpen.com.
Some of the projects I’ve created are:
Widgetifyr.com
I found that creating WordPress widgets was kind of a pain so I created a tool to take the tedium out of creating WordPress Widgets. It seems like quite a few people also find this tool useful.
WPMultiSite.com
I have lots of sites hosted on shared hosting accounts and keeping them all up to date was getting to be a pain so I created WPMultiSite which lets you use one install of WordPress to host multiple sites. It not only lets you update all the sites at once, but it allows you to create a new site in a flash. It’s not the same as the “official” WordPress multisite feature which is really just WordPress MU. The basic difference is that MU includes the commingling of users, and each site is not easily separated. WPMuliteSite does not have a super user so all plugins and themes are available to all sites that use the same content directory.
PodcastingPlugin.com
A while back I had a podcast (SBHosting.com) and I was using the WordPress podcasting plugin for that podcast. As it often happens with WordPress plugins the original authors decided to drop the plugin so I stepped in several months ago and took over development of the plugin and have been keeping it up to date as WordPress updates come out.
I’ve done a batch more with WordPress, but most of it has not been productized.
